Community Alert Awareness Month 1st – 31st of October 2011
Community Alert Awareness Month is being organised by Muintir na Tíre Community Alert volunteers throughout the country.
Muintir na Tíre – National Association for the Promotion of Community Development in Ireland, is a national voluntary organisation dedicated to promoting the process of community development. Canon Hayes founded the organisation in 1937. Muintir na Tíre aims to enhance the capacities of people in communities, rural and urban, to become involved in local social, economic, cultural and environmental development.
Aims of Community Alert Awareness Month
1. Promote and raise awareness of Community Alert
2. Reduce Social Isolation
3. Create a forum for people of all ages and from all walks of life to volunteer in their Community.
4. Create a Safer, Caring Community.
Who Can Participate: All members of the Community.
Project Ideas: The project list below contains some ideas for possible projects that you can organise during Community Alert Awareness Month. If you are interested in hosting your own project, register it at headoffice@muintir.ie.
Project ideas might include:
• Visit Older and Vulnerable people in your Community.
• Check on the Older Persons Socially Monitored Pendant Alarm.
• Run an activity day for Older People in your area.
• Arrange for the local Gardai to give Crime Prevention/Home Security Advice to the Older and Vulnerable People in the Community.
• Organise a Community Information day.
• Organise a Fundraising Event to raise funds for a Senior Citizens Party.
• Arrange for the Provision of Socially Monitored Pendant Alarms and small scale security devices for the Older People in the Community who have not already been provided by same.
The Official Launch of Community Alert Awareness Month will take place in Tipperary on Monday 26th September 2011
