One of the privileges of working for a Volunteer Centre is to come across some of the committed and amazing people who want to make their community a better place.
I had the fortune of meeting two of those people this week: Joan Hamilton and Marilyn Lawlor.
Joan started Sli Eile to provide housing and support services for people caught up in the revolving door of the psychiatric system.
Marilyn started as a volunteer with Le Cheile, a centre for people who have experienced difficulties in coping. The centre provides support, friendship and opportunity in a to help people develop their talents and coping skills primarily through the use of social and creative activities.
Both are utterly committed to helping people experiencing mental health difficulties, and are powerful advocates for their causes.
And they both need your help!
Joan at Sli Eile is looking to fill the following volunteer positions in North County Cork (Charleville):
- Office volunteer
- Web Developer
- Gardener/Facilitator
And if you’re closer to Limerick City, why not help out Marilyn and the team at Le Cheile? They are looking to recruit volunteers as:
- Office Administrator
- Activity support volunteer
Both organisations would like at least a medium-term commitment (at least 6 months).
You can search online and apply for these positions, or call Thomas on (086) 056 1434 for more details.
